Five stops from Bethesda station, and the car comes back fixed
Bethesda sits on the same leg of the Red Line as Rockville. Ride five stops toward Shady Grove, walk one block, hand over the keys, then reverse it in the evening. No second car, no ride-share, no waiting room in Rockville.
Wisconsin Avenue is Rockville Pike is Hungerford Drive
It is one road with three names. MD-355 leaves downtown Bethesda as Wisconsin Avenue, becomes Rockville Pike north of Woodmont Avenue, and turns into Hungerford Drive through downtown Rockville, where it passes the Rockville station a block from the shop. Old Georgetown Road runs parallel to it all the way to the Pike just past North Bethesda station if the Pike is crawling, and from western Bethesda the I-270 Spur joins I-270, which drops you into downtown Rockville at Exit 6 (MD-28). Center to center the drive is about nine miles.

Coming back by train: Bethesda station is at 7450 Wisconsin Avenue, with an entrance at Wisconsin and Old Georgetown Road, and the ride to Rockville passes Medical Center, Grosvenor–Strathmore, North Bethesda and Twinbrook on the way. Prefer the bus? Ride On Route 47 runs seven days a week between Bethesda station and Rockville station by way of Old Georgetown Road, Democracy Boulevard, Montgomery Mall, Seven Locks Road and Falls Road, and Route 46 runs up the Pike; Ride On is currently fare-free. Bethesda has no MARC station: the nearest Brunswick Line stops are Silver Spring and Kensington (Garrett Park is a little farther), and the same line stops at Rockville.
A shop that quotes first, every time
Bethesda is a place of home offices and downtown garages: recent Census estimates have nearly as many people working from home as driving alone to work, and the county runs nine public garages and seven surface lots downtown. Short hops, Beltway merges and the NIH campus loop are hard on a car even when the mileage stays low, and newer cars mean more electronics to diagnose properly.

Selling a car, buying a used one, or titling a car you brought to Maryland all need the Maryland Safety Inspection from a licensed station. Karnon Automotive is one, and repairs plus re-inspection happen under the same roof.
Emissions (VEIP): the state
Montgomery County has two full-service VEIP stations: Silver Spring at 2121 Industrial Parkway in White Oak, about ten miles from downtown Bethesda, and Rockville at 15910 Chieftain Ave in Derwood, about 13 miles via I-270 and a few miles up the Pike from the shop. Fail either and the repair is a shop job, usually a check-engine fault; that gets fixed here before the retest.

Inspection results go to the MVA electronically. For the counter itself, the nearest branch to Bethesda is MVA Kemp Mill at 1327 Lamberton Dr in Silver Spring; the full-service branch with a self-service emissions kiosk is MVA Gaithersburg at 15 Metropolitan Grove Rd.
